2025 Spring Dance Recital
Information

Sutton Memorial Theatre

Sutton High School

383 Boston Road

Sutton, MA

Each year as part of their dance program, the students of Dance It Up! enrolled in Intro to Dance through Senior level participate in the Spring Dance Recital. We believe this presentation helps our students develop poise, self-confidence, and a sense of achievement. Regular class attendance is very important to ensure that dancers are confident in their performance. The following information has been compiled to help you and your dancer prepare for the dress rehearsal and performance. Please pay close attention to the details; our goal is to provide an exceptional performance experience for everyone!

Dress Rehearsal: Saturday June 7

Performances: Sunday June 8 10:30am and 2:30pm

DRESS REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE: Costume & Appearance Instructions

Hair: Bun, centered at the back of the head, please use a hairnet and hairpins to secure. Please watch our “Bun Demo” video for instructions. If a head piece is included as part of your costume, please secure it to the right side of the dancer’s bun. Please do hair at home prior to arrival. Performance Hair Kits are available for purchase in Sugarplums or online

Makeup: Neutral color eyeshadows, light blush - please apply makeup at home. Do not wear nail polish.

Shoes: Please clean all shoes (ballet, tap, hip hop, jazz boots, and Irish Step shoes) with a damp cloth to remove any marks. Laces should be tied and (for ballet slippers) tucked. Leather ballet slippers or pointe shoes are required for all performers required to wear ballet slippers.

Costumes: Please write the dancer’s initials on the costume tag and keep the costume(s) hung in the garment bag. Do not wear jewelry or underpants. If a dancer is in more than one dance, they must arrive wearing a skin-colored camisole leotard so that they are covered while changing. Camisole leotards are available for purchase in Sugarplums. If your dancer’s costumes require different colored tights, the tan tights go on under the camisole and the pink tights are layered over the tan tights and camisole. Dancers should wear clean, hole and run free tights to dress rehearsal as we will be taking photographs. We will distribute a new pair of performance tights at departure from dress rehearsal at the Sugarplums Pop-Up Shop; be sure to stop by on your way out!

DRESS REHEARSAL PROCEDURE ON JUNE 7

DRESS REHEARSAL IS CLOSED TO EVERYONE EXCEPT DANCERS AND ONE PARENT/GUARDIAN ONLY. NO SIBLINGS!

Please plan ahead! This is for the benefit and safety of the children dancing. Dress rehearsal is the teachers’ time to help the dancers get acclimated to the theater. It is impossible for them to accomplish this without the cooperation of everyone involved. We thank you for your understanding.

DRESS REHEARSAL ARRIVAL

At your designated arrival time, enter Sutton High School, pass through the main entrance, cross the courtyard to the theater. You will find our check-in desk directly in the theater lobby. You will be directed by our staff to the designated dressing area for your child’s class. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your designated rehearsal time. The rehearsal order shown does not reflect the actual order the dancers will be rehearsing; it represents the timeframe in which they will rehearse.

  • One parent/guardian is welcome to enter the auditorium and watch the rehearsal.

  • Video and flash photography are allowed at DRESS REHEARSAL ONLY.

    • Video and flash photography are not allowed the at recital. We contract with a professional videographer who records both shows. A link to download a digital copy will be sent to you mid summer.

  • 9:30am for the 10:30am show

  • 1:30pm for the 2:30pm show

RECITAL ARRIVAL

ONE PARENT is requested to quickly settle their dancer(s) with their group and return to the theater lobby. The auditorium doors will open approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of the show.

DURING THE RECITAL

  • Dancers will stay in their assigned room with their class and chaperones throughout the show and will return to the stage for our finale.

  • Parents are asked not to go backstage after dropping off their dancer and especially once the show begins. This is out of respect for those in the audience and the dancers performing.

  • Please do not send any iPads/electronics with your dancers

  • Each show is approximately 2 hours. There is no intermission.

For students performing in both shows:

  • A bagged lunch prepared by Bushel and Peck of Grafton, is available for pre-purchase through Dance It Up!; DIU staff will deliver the pre-purchased lunches to the dancers in their dressing areas. Please complete the Lunch Order Form for your dancer(s). You may bring lunch/snacks from home, just be sure the food is not messy or could easily be spilled on a costume. Please do not bring nut products. We have students with severe allergies.

  • Dancers should bring a large button up shirt or a Dance It Up! jacket to cover their costume (or camisole) while eating lunch between shows.
